Eyelid Conditions FAQ

Dermatochalasis refers to the droopy appearance of your eyelids related to excessive overhanging eyelid skin that most commonly occurs as you age. Aging causes your skin to lose collagen, an essential protein that keeps it firm and healthy. Less collagen causes the skin on your eyelids to sag and eventually hang over your eye, which can impair your vision. An outpatient surgery called a blepharoplasty is the preferred treatment for this condition. For more blepharoplasty information click here.
Ptosis refers to the droopy appearance of one or more eyelids related to loss of muscle tone or integrity of the supporting tissue within the eyelid itself. There are many types of ptosis, but the most common form is related to aging. Like dermatochalasis the result is eyelid sagging that can hang over your eye and impair vision. Various forms of outpatient ptosis surgery are offered at Fry Eye to address this condition. For more ptosis surgery information click here.

Ectropion refers to an abnormal outward splaying of one or more eyelids that results in poor coverage of the eye and resultant eye irritation, inflammation and sometimes damage to the eye. There are different types of ectropion, with the most common forms being related to aging or scarring. Various forms of medical therapy and outpatient ectropion surgery are offered at Fry Eye to address this condition. For more information click here.
